Good News. Another Acceptance.

Posted on: January 20, 2010

I just got an email telling me my latest story is going to appear in the May 2011 issue of a children’s magazine. Yippeee!

Now some people might think, “What is she getting all excited about?”

Well, let me tell you why I’m all excited.  Earlier today, I got a rejection on a book proposal.  I did the market research and it was a great fit but the industry  is not that open now in some ways. Some picture book authors, even some really well-known ones, have gotten rejected several times before they got their first contract. Guess I’ll have to send it to a new publisher tomorrow as I got a nice comment on it.

So while I would have loved to have got a picture book contract, I’m delighted to be accepted in a children’s magazine. It is my fourth story. (Three fictions and one nonfiction.)

Congratulations, that’s great news. Sorry to hear about your rejection glad to hear that you are going to keep plugging away. I received 14 rejections on my manuscript before it was accepted.

Thanks for the kind words. If I let rejections stop me, I’d have quit several years ago. Lucky for me I have a thick skin. lol.

I’ve been working on targeting things to individual publishers better so that the number of rejections is getting smaller.

I am an aspiring picturebook writer with some magazine credits just no picture book contract yet. I know it is coming and I am more than willing to work for it.

My Favorites:

I love the children's movies Wizard of Oz and the Neverending Story. Both movies make me feel the lesson that hope is alive and well. After seeing UP this past week, it just might have a chance at being added to this list.

I love the cool colors of blues and purples. Those colors are peaceful for me.

I love The Velveteen Rabbit. Even as an adult, I still feel the urge to cry when he becomes real. I know, silly, but a good book can make me laugh and cry as it takes me on a magical journey.
